For the third time in its history, the World Confederation of Billiards Sports has the honour and pleasure to participate in the 2009 World Games. During this most crédible sporting event, this gives our Confederation the opportunity to demonstrate to everyone of our sports ever increasing popularity and the exciting dynamism of all Billiards Sports. With more than 17,000 Billiards tables installed just in Chinese Taipei, this is confirmation of the immense popularity that our sport enjoys throughout the world.

We are sure that we will enjoy the support from all of the media, as they already recognise that the sport of Billiards is a spectacle of high quality and skill. However, the magnificent skill and talents of the players, sometimes can give the impression that makes our sport appear easy to play at this high level - which of course it is not!

In my view, the beauty of any sport lives in its capacity to produce a technical level of play that is a challenging and yet has an attractive and interesting aspect. Cleverness, skill, strategy, psychologyare all ingredients that when combined together, guarantee the spectator ahigh-quality competition as seen in our Billiards Sports. The WCBS is especially proud to present to you the world elite of Billiards Sports Players from 3 of the disciplines of Billiards that are played around the World - Pool, Carom and Snooker.

With more than 140 Member Countries, the WCBS represents hundreds of millions of players and competitors on all of the five continents. My main wish is that by the witnessing of this high-level competition, this gives you the desire to commit your time to the pleasures and skills of our great sport. Universal and open to all ages, our sport can unite children, youth, parents and friends around a Billiards table in a very enjoyable and sporting way.

I would wish to also thank everyone that has contributed to make this huge event possible and notably the KOC for their magnificent and accomplished work, the IWGA for its continued support and the whole team from the WCBS for their time dedicated to guarantee the success of these World Games.

I am sure that only the purest of sportsmanship will see great Champions crowned during the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games.
